SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY: It is understood that some members may like to publish photographs from walks on social media platforms. Due to the sensitivity of many of the areas we walk in (cultural, environmental, National Park, private property) we ask that members and guests refrain from outlining specific details of the walk. For example, access, route taken etc.
Sadly our beautiful countryside has been ravaged by devastating bushfires. Tragically a number of national parks have suffered extensive damage and a number of parks in our region are currently closed.
We were deeply saddened to hear of the devastating loss of Fairwether Farm, a 2000 acre organic farm. The property is located at Clouds Creek and is surrounded by national parks. Many of us have enjoyed activities on the farm while staying in cabins, the Bunk House or camping. Ray and Marie have always been very generous, welcoming and wonderful hosts.
Property loss has been widespread with a southern walker also sadly losing their home.
Quite a few members of the north coast bushwalking fraternity have suffered extensive damage to their properties.
Proposed Walks for early 2020
Walks are outlined below but more detailed information will be available as we progress into the new year. Because of widespread fire damage to much of our bushland and National Parks planning at this stage remains rather fluid. If you would like to lead or organise an activity please let me know. We are hoping our parks recover sufficiently to enjoy some weekend camps in the new year.
Tuesday 11th February - Our first meeting for the year. CEX at 7.30pm
Saturday 15th February - Bishops Creek
Due to the welcome but extended heavy rain this walk has had to be delayed to a later date.
Instead we are planning (weather permitting) either a coastal walk or a walk in the Conglomerate State Forest west of Woolgoolga.
The coastal walk option will most likely be from Mylestom via Bundagen Headland to Bonville Ck along the beaches and returning to the starting point along tracks behind the beaches.
Only light footwear is required for predominately beach and track walking.
The Conglomerate SF option will depend on rain conditions but will be confined to tracks due to wet weather.
Please confirm with the walk leader Bill Beamish by this Thursday 13th Feb if attending (Ph 0432 634 220).
A reminder also that membership renewals are now due. See the Membership Section for details.
Saturday 14th March – Brinnerville
Saturday 18th April – Wild Cattle Creek
Saturday 16th May – Syndicate Track
