“Coffs Coast Bushwalkers” are members of the Ulitarra Conservation Society Incorporated, a local conservation organisation dedicated to the preservation of our environment. The society was founded in 1971 and aims to provide education in natural history together with a voice on matters of conservation and environmental concern. Since 1980, a diverse range of walks and camps have been enjoyed.

Members promote bushwalking and foster appreciation and conservation of the environment and support the establishment and maintenance of national parks and wilderness areas.
The name Ulitarra (now spelt “Ulidarra”) comes from the all-powerful Aboriginal god who was the creator of the Gumbaynggirr people who inhabited the coast between the Nambucca and Clarence Rivers. Ulitarra believed it was a crime to misuse the environment and this would invoke his wrath. The society adheres to this philosophy and was the driving force behind the preservation and declaration of 6.8km2 of land known as Ulidarra National Park in 1999 (over the years the spelling of many of the words in the Gumbaynggirr language together with pronunciations have been altered)
